Worship
We understand that visiting a congregation can sometimes be intimidating or at the least, a little uncomfortable. We want you to know that you are our welcome guest and it is our hope that you will be uplifted as we worship our heavenly Father together.
We would like to share with you what you can expect when you visit The Cabot Church of Christ.
Who makes up the congregation?
We're a diverse group, coming from varied backgrounds, and at different stages of knowledge and spiritual growth. We don't know everything. We are not brought together by perfection or righteousness but an understanding that we are all in need of Jesus’ cleansing blood.
It is this understanding that allows us to celebrate our diversity while, at the same time, coming together as one to edify each other and worship the true and living God.
It won’t be hard to find our faults but looking past them, you will see a group of people that love each other, love Jesus, and love God.
What happens during the worship service?
Upon entering the auditorium, please feel free to sit wherever you would like. There will be ushers at the back of the auditorium if you need help finding seating. We have an attended nursery and toddler room at both the early and late services if you have small children. You will notice that the announcements, songs, and message will be projected up front throughout the service. During our time together you will experience a number of prayers, sharing of the Lord’s Supper, singing, and a Bible based message. We want you to feel welcome and while many members will greet you and introduce themselves, we will not require you to stand or be recognized in any other way.
Our worship is simple and designed to keep the focus on God, not ourselves.
Message:
The message will typically last 20-25 minutes and will be given by our pulpit minister. At times, one of our Elders or our youth minister will speak. Regardless of who speaks, it will be Bible based, delivered in love, and have practical application for our lives today.
Children’s Bible Hour:
During the message, children ages 3 years through 3rd grade will gather in the family center for singing and a lesson that is on their level. This is very popular with our children and allows our parents to focus completely on the sermon in the auditorium. Your children are invited to join ours when they are dismissed prior to the sermon.
Prayer:
We believe that our Father not only hears our prayers but responds to them. You will notice a number of prayers dispersed throughout the service that are focused on specific needs.
Singing:
One of the first things visitors sometimes notice is that we do not have a choir or use musical instruments. This is a conviction with us, not just a preference. It has its roots in the first century church. We believe that this is in keeping with New Testament pattern. You will find we sing a number of both contemporary as well as traditional songs during the song service. We sing with all our hearts. Those who have not heard unaccompanied singing before are usually quickly caught up in the beauty of the blended voices.
The Lord’s Supper:
This is the centerpiece of our worship. Every Sunday we come together in communion with each other in remembrance of the sacrifice our Savior made on our behalf. It is the grace of our Father through the blood of his Son that cleanses us daily and redeems us wholly.
Giving:
Each Sunday, we take up a contribution to support the various ministries we have. This is specifically for our members and as our guest, you will not be asked to give. Simply pass the tray on down the pew when it comes to you.
What will be expected of you?
Nothing at all! As our guest, you are welcomed to participate but please, don't feel obligated, just observe if that is your choice. You may be asked to fill out a Visitor's Card. This simply provides information so the church can write or call to thank you for your visit. Supply the information if you are comfortable doing so.
It is our prayer that at the end of the worship service, you will have been uplifted, drawn closer to God, and felt good about being with us.
